According to the Indian epic story of Ramayan, when Ram returned to his birthplace Ayodhya, after spending an exile of 14 long years, he said, “Janani janmabhoomishva swargdapi garyasi” meaning “one’s birthplace is greater
than paradise”.
Friends, for us, to be a native of Dharmaj (or Dharmajian), is a thing of great pride. To embody this spirit, Avichal Heritage Foundation has started a noble cause to restore, repurpose and reconnect both tangible and intangible heritage. Till now, Dharohar Foundation, also functioning as Team Dharmaj, organizes “Dharmaj Day”, a unique event encompassing the identity of Dharmaj, with a similar goal. As a joint collaboration of these two Foundations, we are starting a series of articles from today with the sole purpose of bringing readers from across the globe physically and mentally to the “Bhagol”, or Town Square, of Dharmaj. Through such articles, we will try to cover the historical facts, grand history and current scenario of the village. Together, let us create a new initiative through this medium and open up new horizons for Dharmaj.
Through the objectives of Avichal Heritage Foundation and Dharohar Foundation, we will try to unearth our hierarchical roots and open it up to the world in order to inspire the next generation to find their roots. We hope that you all embrace our vision and efforts and invite you to share your views and suggestions to inspire higher goals. In the spirit of engaging with our culture and heritage, we will publish these articles twice a month on the auspicious day of “Agiyaras” (11 th day of the moon cycle, a.k.a. “Ekadashi”), according to our Hindu calendar.
For this first edition, let me introduce myself – I am Rajesh Patel of Dharmaj, Athamni Khadki, son of Late Rameshbhai Dayabhai Narsibhai Patel. Academically I am an engineer, but I also have a passion for writing. Up until now, I have published 9 books, of which one is a bestseller Gujarati book having sold 22,000 copies. I am happy that my writing journey began in 2007 with a book titled, “Dharmaj Ek Udaharniya Gaam”, which translated means “Dharmaj: An Exemplary Village. A coffee table book titled “Chalo Dharmaj”, containing 500 pictures showcasing various facets of Dharmaj was also published by our Sharda Foundation to maintain the interest of the new generation towards their village.
Friends, perhaps we might have met in person during the annual Dharmaj Day celebrations going on for the last 14 years. In case we have not met, then we shall meet through this media of publications. Corona has taught us a good lesson to meet from a distance! So come, using all mediums and platforms, let us say “Chalo Dharmaj”…

પ્રિય ધર્મજીયનો,
નમસ્તે,
ભારતીય સંસ્કૃતિની ધરોહર સમાન ગ્રંથ રામાયણમાં ભગવાન શ્રીરામે જ્યારે ૧૪ વર્ષનો વનવાસ પૂર્ણ કરી પોતાના વતન અયોધ્યાની ધરતી ઉપર પગ મુકયો ત્યારે તેઓ બોલ્યા હતા કે,
“જનની જન્મભુમીશ્વ સ્વર્ગાદપિ ગરીયસી” અર્થાત જન્મભૂમિ સ્વર્ગ કરતાં પણ મહાન છે.
મિત્રો આપણા માટે પણ ધર્મજના વતની હોવું એ ગૌરવની વાત છે. ધર્મજ ખાતે અવિચલ હેરિટેજ ફાઉન્ડેશન એક ઉમદા આશયથી કાર્યરત બનેલ છે. વધુમાં ગામની આગવી ઓળખ બની ગયેલ ધર્મજ ડેની આયોજક સંસ્થા ધરોહર ફાઉન્ડેશન પણ ટીમ ધર્મજ નામથી આ ક્ષેત્રમાં વર્ષોથી કાર્યરત છે. આ બંને સંસ્થાના સંયુક્ત ઉપક્રમે આજના દિવસથી આ લેખન શ્રેણી શરૂ કરીએ છીએ. જેનો ઉદ્દેશ વાંચકોને સદેહે અથવા સુક્ષ્મ રૂપે ધર્મજની ભાગોળે લાવવાનો નમ્ર પ્રયાસ માત્ર છે. આ લેખનમાં ધર્મજની ઐતિહાસિક તવારીખ, ગામનો ભવ્ય વારસો અને સાંપ્રત સમયમાં ઘટતી ઉલ્લેખનીય ઘટનાઓને વણી લેવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરીશું.
આવો આજથી આપણે સૌ સાથે મળીને એક નવી પહેલ કરી આ માધ્યમથી ધર્મજ માટે નવી ક્ષિતિજો ખોલીએ. અવિચલ હેરીટેજ ફાઉન્ડેશન તથા ધરોહર ફાઉન્ડેશનના ઉદ્દેશો મુજબ અહીં ધર્મજની ધરોહર સમાન વારસાની શોધ કરી વિશ્વ સમક્ષ મુકીશું. આપણા મૂળ સુધી પહોંચવા માટે નવી પેઢીને ઢંઢોળીશુ. અમે આશા રાખીએ છીએ કે આપ સૌને અમારો આ વિચાર ગમશે. તેમાં આપ સૌના વિચારો અને સુચનો ભળશે એટલે અમને નવુ બળ મળશે. આ લેખમાળાથી આપણે સંસ્કૃતિ અને વારસાની વાત કરવાની છે તેથી આ શ્રેણીના અંકો દર મહીને બે વખત આપણા હિંદુ કેલેન્ડર વિક્રમ સંવત મુજબ આવતી બે અગિયારસના દિવસે પ્રકાશીત કરીશું.
આજના પ્રથમ લેખ પ્રસંગે મારો પરિચય આપુ તો હું રાજેશ પટેલ ધર્મજ આથમણી ખડકીના સ્વ.રમેશભાઇ ડાહ્યાભાઇ બીન નરસીભાઇ પટેલનો દિકરો છું. હાલ બાળકોના અભ્યાસ અર્થે કરમસદ સ્થાયી થયેલ છું પણ ધર્મજ છુટતુ નથી. વતનની માટીમાં ઉછરીને મોટો થયો છું. તેથી ધર્મજ અઠવાડીયામાં બે થી ત્રણ વખત આવતો રહુ છું. અભ્યાસ ઇજનેરીનો કરેલ છે પરંતુ શોખથી લેખનકાર્ય કરૂ છું. અત્યાર સુધી મારા નવ પુસ્તકો પ્રકાશીત થયા છે. જેમાં એક બેસ્ટ સેલર ગુજરાતી પુસ્તક બનેલ છે જેની ૨૨,૦૦૦ નકલો બહાર પડેલ છે. મને આનંદ એ વાતનો છે કે મારી લેખન યાત્રાની શરૂઆત સને ૨૦૦૭માં ધર્મજ ડે ઉજવણી સમિતિ દ્વારા પ્રકાશીત ધર્મજ – એક ઉદાહરણીય ગામ નામના પુસ્તકથી થયેલ છે. આ ઉપરાંત ગામના વિવિધ ૫૦૦ ફોટોગ્રાફ સાથે ચાલો ધર્મજ< કૉફી ટેબલ બુક પણ અમારી સંસ્થા શારદા ફાઉન્ડેશન દ્વારા પ્રકાશિત કરી નવી પેઢીનો ગામ પ્રત્યે લગાવ જળવાઈ રહે તેવો પ્રયાસ પણ કરેલ છે. મિત્રો છેલ્લા ૧૪ વર્ષથી ઉજવાઈ રહેલ ધર્મજ ડેના મેળાવડામાં કદાચ આપણે રૂબરૂ મળ્યા હોઈશું અને ના મળ્યા હોય તો આ માધ્યમથી હવે મળીશું. કારણ કે હવે તો કોરોનાએ આપણા સૌને દુરથી મળવાનું પણ શીખવી દીધું છે.
ત્યારે આવો આપણે દરેક માધ્યમથી કહીએ “ચાલો ધર્મજ”
