Dharmaj is a small bucolic village in Kheda District in the “”Charotar Tract”, an area in the state of Gujarat bound by the Sabarmati and Mahi Rivers. This village is regarded as the richest town per capita in India. Today it has a population of no more than 12,000 people. At the end of the 19th and early 20th century the diaspora of Dharmaj migrated to places far afield to places such as Hong Kong, Fiji, Borneo, East Africa and parts of Southern Africa.
